Yankees Linked To Potential Reunion With $15 Million Veteran Infielder

The New York Yankees have desperately needed infield depth for the last few months. But to this point, they haven't really added much help at all. In fact, with the injury to Oswaldo Cabrera, the Yankees' depth has been tested even further.

It's clear the Bronx Bombers are going to need to make a trade in the coming weeks, but it's not completely clear who they're going to target ahead of the trade deadline.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today recently linked the Yankees to a reunion with infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa of the Pittsburgh Pirates to fill the infield void in the Bronx.

"The New York Yankees and San Francisco Giants are keeping a close eye on versatile Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who should be available at the trade deadline," Nightengale wrote.

Kiner-Falefa spent two years with the Yankees as he played in 255 games and posted a 2.9 WAR in that time span. He slashed .253/.311/.333 in his time with the team while also providing them with solid defensive and positional versatility.

Now with the Pirates, Kiner-Falefa is slashing .280/.325/.349 with an 88 OPS+. He's not an offensive juggernaut, but his ability to play third base at a higher level than anybody on the Yankees' roster can't be overstated.

If the Bronx Bombers are looking for an affordable trade target, they could target Kiner-Falefa. His familiarity in the Bronx makes him an even better option for Aaron Boone's team.
