The Boston Red Sox might have something on their plate with Rafael Devers.
While it was only one series, suggesting that Devers lost a step would be outrageous considering he's been one of the top hitters in Major League Baseball over the past few years, but it was as ugly as it gets against the Texas Rangers.
However, something looked off.
After reports suggested that the superstar third baseman thought about requesting a trade, is one possible?
"Devers, his pride wounded and his trust compromised, made it abundantly clear that he wasn't at all interested in sacrificing his position at third base to accommodate the Red Sox when first asked about the potential shift in February," MassLive's Sean McAdam wrote.
"According to sources, Devers was angry enough about the situation to consider asking for a trade."
If Devers continues to struggle and it becomes apparent that he's frustrated with his situation, the Red Sox might have no choice but to send him to a different team.
Should the slugger request a trade, the Red Sox must get the best package.
No matter the team, the Red Sox's main focus has to be getting back a package that can help them win now and in the future.
There aren't many MLB teams that could realistically offer them the type of package they're looking for, but teams are interested in adding a third baseman.
Among the teams that could use Devers are the New York Yankees, which would be a trade that would shock the baseball world.
It seems unlikely that the Red Sox would ever trade Devers to the Yankees, but crazier things have happened. If New York were willing to move on from some of its top players, he'd be a perfect fit in pinstripes.
