2 biggest overreactions to Saints Week 4 loss

The New Orleans Saints suffered a disappointing loss to the Atlanta Falcons, so naturally, there are a couple overreactions.

After four weeks, the New Orleans Saints are 2-2, and third in the NFC South. Just two weeks ago, fans were ready to pencil the Saints into a Super Bowl appearance. That’s because New Orleans got off to a blistering hot start in the first two weeks of the season, and naturally, people overreacted a little bit.

Overreacting can essentially be another word for fandom. When things are good, they’re really good, but when they’re bad, they’re extremely bad. Right now, things are really bad for Saints fans after watching the team lose its second straight nail biter.

Following the Week 4 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, there were quite a few overreactions. Here’s a look at the two biggest overreactions from the game.

2. Paulson Adebo should be benched

This is an extreme overreaction, because only a few weeks ago, Paulson Adebo was being praised as a quality corner that’s helping New Orleans be the elite secondary it is. However, after a bad game against the Falcons, some fans are calling for Adebo to be replaced by promising rookie Kool-Aid McKinstry.

Week 4 was certainly a week to forget for Adebo. Atlanta targeted him 16 times, and the talented corner gave up nine catches for 150 yards. He also was flagged three times, including a pass interference on the final series that set up the Falcons’ game-winning kick.

Adebo did record his second interception of the season in the game, but that was overshadowed by his poor performance. While he won’t be benched, he does need a big bounce-back performance in Week 5.

1. Saints offense can’t function without Taysom Hill

After the first two drives from New Orleans’ offense in Week 4, everyone was thinking the same thing: maybe Taysom Hill is the piece that makes this offense work. Hill was a part of New Orleans’ offensive explosion through the first two weeks of the season, but he missed the Week 3 game against the Philadelphia Eagles. In that game, the Saints offense was held to just 12 points.

When he returned in Week 4, he scored on New Orleans first two drives against Atlanta. He then left the game with injured ribs, and the offense went back to being a unit that had to work extremely hard for everything. Naturally, that leaves everyone wondering if he’s the ultimate key to offensive production.

Hopefully, Hill can get healthy, and this observation can come to an end. No one wants to see if the offense can be healthy without Hill, because everyone would rather Hill be healthy, helping the team put up points.
