Soto's upcoming free agency has his teammate weighing in on the matter.
Whether you win or lose the last game of the season in any sport, questions will always arise about free agency. The New York Yankees have some contractual issues to resolve going into this off-season.
The Yankees would fall short of clinching a 28th World Series title with a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers last night in Game Five of this year's Fall Classic.
After the game, a few members of the Yankees roster were asked a question that has many of their fan base on edge even after a World Series loss: What is the status of Juan Soto's free agency?
The Yankees' left fielder bluntly responded to questions about the potential for teams like the New York Mets to pursue him this offseason.
"I don't know what teams that are going to come after me," Soto said. "But definitely, I'll be open to this and every single team. I don't have any doors closed or anything like that. I'm gonna be available for all 30 teams."
The flip side to Soto's quote about free agency is that the Yankees organization is pleading with him to stay with us.
Aaron Judge was asked about Soto's future with the team, and he would answer it without giving too much about how he really felt away.
"He's an incredible athlete, incredible player, and an even better person. What he brought inside this clubhouse, a lot of people didn't get a chance to see. Wherever he lands, wherever he ends up, that team's gonna be very lucky, that's for sure," Judge said about his teammate.
Giancarlo Stanton's advice for Soto was a lot more straightforward.
"I've never been in it. Just stay with us," Stanton said.
Lastly, pitcher Gerrit Cole understood the business side of free agency and seemed to want to wish his teammate the best as he understood the choices he has to make. "Excited for him, he's done everything he can. He's earned the right to make that choice."
Free agency in the baseball world begins five days after the World Series. So, there's a chance we could be hearing about Soto's decision sooner rather than later.
