Anonymous Mavs Executive Breaks Silence On Trading Anthony Davis And Boldly Claims They’re Still Built To Contend

Since being drafted, Luka Doncic has been the face of the Dallas Mavericks and a symbol of unwavering loyalty to the franchise. That’s why it came as a shock to the NBA world when Dallas traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.

The trade drew immediate backlash from fans, many of whom questioned how the Mavericks could part ways with a generational talent like Doncic. Despite the uproar, the Mavericks’ front office has remained firm in their stance. In a recent interview with Spotrac, an anonymous Mavericks executive doubled down on the organization’s confidence in Anthony Davis.

“Whenever you trade a truly great player, it’s going to hurt. We love AD (Anthony Davis) and we feel like we’re in a good position to have a great team moving forward. With better health this year, we’ll be near the top of the conference going into the playoffs. That’s the goal,” the executive said.

The Mavs’ plan for AD didn’t go as planned. In his debut game for the team, he suffered an injury that kept him off the court for more than a month. Despite the setback, Davis showed flashes of his elite talent in the limited time he played. Over just nine appearances, Davis averaged 20 points, 10.1 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game.

To shift attention from Doncic’s trade, the Mavs leaned into Cooper Flagg. The team is banking on his star power, and league executives are already raving. One anonymous Eastern Conference GM couldn’t hold back his admiration.

With Davis providing experience and Flagg bringing youthful energy, the Mavericks are attempting to forge a new identity. The Luka trade will likely remain controversial. Yet, Dallas seems determined to prove that this risky shake-up can lead to something special.
