The NBA season has had plenty of ups and downs, and for the Dallas Mavericks, the whole season has been a complete flop considering how fans felt entering the year. Dallas not only had high hopes to return to the NBA Finals with a revamped roster but additionally, fans were excited to see what extra steps Luka Doncic would make in his career after finishing as an MVP finalist.
Now, with a few weeks left in the regular season, the Mavericks are in a completely different spot than they were two months ago. Not only is the team struggling to remain in play-in contention, but superstar center Anthony Davis is nearing a return to the hardwood.
Davis has missed over a month with an abdominal injury, which he suffered in his Mavs debut against the Houston Rockets. While Davis dominated in his limited time on the floor, his return to the floor is met with frustration after a recent video shows Davis enjoying his day on the golf course with what looks like a cigar in hand.
Anthony Davis' viral video exposes irony behind Luka Doncic trade
Maverick fans have been met with excuse after excuse as to why Doncic was traded, which is why seeing Davis looking like he is smoking a cigar might be the cherry on top for some fans. When Doncic was traded, one of the reasons he was sent away was due to his lack of work ethic and off-court habits.

Since trading away Doncic in early February, Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont has had no lack of words as to why he felt it was necessary to trade the Slovenian superstar. He not only believed the Mavs got better but he also thought trading away Doncic would give Dallas a better future.
The irony of the whole situation is the Mavericks traded Doncic away on the merit that his work ethic and off-the-court habits caused him to be out of shape and non-competitive according to Dumont and other front office members.
"This is the only way to be competitive and win," Dumont said in an interview (subscription required) with Mavs reporter Brad Townsend. "If you want to take a vacation, don't do it with us."
While seeing Davis enjoy his day off is nothing wrong, the fan base has attacked Davis on the belief that Doncic was sent away due to his off-court habits like drinking beer and smoking hookah. Many fans were quick to call out the former Laker due to the severity of his injury and how soon he is supposed to return to the court.
Golf is often correlated with good abdominal movement when swinging a club, which is another reason fans have been left scratching their heads. Davis may not be in any more pain with over a month removed from his injury, but the message this sends to fans is not good.
Fans are still up in arms if they want to see the big man return to action with the team not remaining competitive, but regardless, Davis will need to do a lot to win back the love of fans who have been hot on his case.
It's unclear when Davis will return to the court for Dallas but it's clear Davis is nearing a full recovery from his injuries after recent updates. It sounds like Davis is eager to return at some point this season while the Mavericks are skeptical, and we'll have you covered with all the latest.
