Anthony Davis has an opportunity to take on a mentorship role in the 2025-26 NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks.
Despite reaching the 2024 NBA Finals with Luka Doncic as their superstar, the Dallas Mavericks decided to part ways with the Slovenian in the 2024-25 season.
Doncic was sent to the Los Angeles Lakers, with the Dallas Mavericks receiving a trade package around 2020 NBA champion Anthony Davis.
Although AD’s first season with the Mavericks was derailed due to injuries, the franchise is hoping for a better result in the upcoming campaign. Moreover, there’s a chance that fans will witness a new version of Davis in the 2025-26 season.

Anthony Davis can impart his knowledge to Cooper Flagg
Landing the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft is a silver lining for the Mavs after the much-criticized decision to trade Doncic.
With the top pick, the Mavs are expected to draft none other than Duke’s Cooper Flagg, who is viewed as the consensus No. 1 pick in his class.
While Flagg is expected to become the next big thing in the NBA, many are not seeing it through the eyes of Davis.
Being a former No. 1 overall pick himself and a dominant two-way superstar, Davis could take Flagg under his wing.
This is an opportunity that AD has never had throughout his 13-year stint in the NBA.
Flagg is expected to be a terrific defender in the NBA, thanks to his ability to defend multiple positions, and playing alongside AD will only enhance his skills.
Davis has never played alongside such a unique young talent in the NBA. He has a new responsibility now to guide the budding superstar to reach his true potential, and it is going to be exciting to see how he responds to the challenge.
What’s next for Anthony Davis
For nearly six seasons, Davis dominated in the Western Conference while wearing the iconic Purple and Gold jersey.
Considering he played a crucial role in helping the Lakers win the 2020 NBA Championship, many expected him to finish his career as a Laker.
But Lakers GM Rob Pelinka had other plans. Since getting traded to the Mavericks, Davis has played with a fire in his eyes, but injuries have once again kept him from performing at his full potential.
However, Mavs head coach Jason Kidd believes fans will see the best version of Davis in the 2025-26 NBA season.
“I think, causing a problem when you can get double-teamed, and that’s what we believe. AD is one that will cause a problem,” Kidd claimed.
Combine this version of AD with a talented prospect like Flagg, the Mavs will likely be in contention for the 2026 NBA Championship.
