The Dallas Cowboys' need for a starting-caliber running back in this year's draft has been well-documented.
The biggest name linked with the Cowboys has been Boise State star Ashton Jeanty, aka "The Frisco Kid. " A few months ago, there was genuine belief that Dallas would select Ashton at No. 12 to lead its run game.
But with the Las Vegas Raiders, among other teams, who pick ahead of Dallas, making their love for Jeanty known, it doesn't seem feasible for him to "slip" to No. 12 and within the Cowboys' reach.
And as it turns out, Jeanty's love for the Cowboys is as strong as ever.
“It would be dope, man,” Jeanty said in an interview with RG. "Most guys, they would love to play for their hometown team, just because of growing up there. But any opportunity for any team in the NFL is going to be great.”
Rushing for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns for Boise last season, Jeanty was borderline unstoppable, and given Dallas' need for a star back, it is no wonder many want him to land at The Star.
Able to create yards for himself while hitting the gas pedal for big gains, Jeanty would become one of the faces of the Dallas offense if he is selected and would lead the run game with Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders offering backup roles (providing both make it past roster cuts).
It would be a superb pick for the Cowboys if Jeanty were somehow available at No. 12, but while Ashton's dream to play for the Cowboys is clear, we get the feeling that his dream won't turn into reality.
