Ben Johnson Prediction is Good for the Lions, Bad for the Bears

It’s no secret that the Detroit Lions fanbase isn’t too happy with Ben Johnson. Of course, the Lions lost both Johnson, their offensive coordinator, and Aaron Glenn, their defensive coordinator, during the offseason, but one stung much more than the other. Glenn went to the New York Jets, so that’s not a direct rival team. He was also a bit lower profile during the season, and in an offensive-minded sport like football, maybe Glenn being a defensive coordinator somehow made the blow not as harsh.

Ben Johnson, Chicago Bears, formerly Lions

But, with Johnson, he went to one of the Lions’ biggest rivals: the Chicago Bears. It really only would have hurt more to see Johnson go to the Green Bay Packers. Seeing Johnson head to the Windy City and start working with Caleb Williams felt like a betrayal of sorts to many. Sure, it’s his life, and it’s probably his dream to be a head coach, so you can’t hate on him for that. But, we can still be a bit mad about it and not hope for the best for the Bears in the new season.

Now, a new survey brings some good news for the Lions and bad news for the Bears when it comes to a prediction for the upcoming season.

Former Detroit Lions and Current Chicago Bears Coach Ben Johnson

Earlier this week, Warren Sharp from Sharp Football Analysis sent out a post on X with a poll from more than 9,000 voters. That poll asked the question, was Lions head coach Dan Campbell the one to give most of the credit for the Lions’ success, or should that credit go to his coordinators, who have left?

“Over 9,000 votes and most think Dan Campbell was most responsible for the Lions success so losing both Ben Johnson & Aaron Glenn not a big issue for the average person,” Sharp shared on the X post. Well, that’s good news for the Lions and not great news for the Bears.

“A decent majority of Lions fans probably wanted Aaron Glenn fired at some points in his Lions tenure,” one commenter stated. “Ben Johnson is a big loss but the players who are running the plays are still there so I wouldn’t expect Dan to change his philosophy which is what Ben Johnson’s job reflected.” That comment even got a positive response from Sharp, who said, “I like this answer.”

Dan Campbell Was the ‘Change Agent’ for the Lions

“Dan was the change agent,” another person commented. “He brought in the others, and Brad fueled his fire with pure talent. It’s always been Dan.”

“The Lions success is three-fold,” one more added. “First, Shelia (Ford) becoming owner and understanding how to run an org. Second, identifying (Brad) Holmes and then Campbell. Those 3 turned everything around and its why the Lion’s future is paved for success.”

“The guy changed the entire culture and identity of that team. Makes sense to me,” another follower stated.

So, do you think it will be all smiles for the Detroit Lions going forward with Campbell and the new staff? Reach out to me and let me know your thoughts.
