Bengals roster breakdown is back! During the 99 days leading up to Cincinnati's regular season opener against the Cleveland Browns, the player with the matching jersey number as days remaining will become the day's highlighted player.
76 days remain until the Bengals' first game of the 2025 season, and No. 76 Devin Cochran is coming off his first year of actual football for Cincinnati.
Age: 26
Year: 4th
Position: Offensive tackle
College: Georgia Tech
Previous Teams: None
Jersey Number: 76
Cochran enters his fourth season with the Bengals after going undrafted during the 2022 NFL Draft. He started one year at left tackle for Georgia Tech in 2021 after transferring from Vanderbilt, where he was a three-year starter with experience at both tackle spots.
Cincinnati stashed Cochran on its practice squad in 2022 and then on Injured Reserve in 2023 thanks to a season-ending knee injury suffered in the offseason. He started 2024 on the practice squad but was called up for the final nine weeks of the season due to Orlando Brown Jr.'s knee injury. He backed up Cody Ford for a few weeks before making his first-ever start in Week 15, and came off the bench to replace an injured Amarius Mims at right tackle in Weeks 16 and 17. He appeared in a total of eight games, with four of them just to block for the field goal unit.
Cochran is in the second year of his two-year, $1.755 million contract he signed in 2024. He can earn a base salary of $960,000 this season, which represents his potential cash earnings and salary cap hit for the season. The Bengals would take on zero dead money if they were to release at any point this year.
Cochran finally got to prove himself a little at the end of the 2024 season after nearly three full years of biding his time, and his competition to reclaim a similar role this yeat isn't very strong. Fifth-round pick Jalen Rivers is a virtual lock to make the team, but outside of him it's just second-year player Andrew Coker and rookie UDFA Caleb Etienne behind Brown and Mims.
Like most positions, it'll be a numbers game when it's time for roster cuts. A fourth OT has Cochran's name all over it unless Cody Ford loses the starting right guard battle and the coaching staff moves him back to tackle as his primary focus. If Ford stays inside regardless of his starting status, Cochran can push for the last roster spot for the offensive line.
Roster odds: 35%
Projected role: Reserve offensive tackle
