The Cincinnati Bengals won their third straight game on Sunday, beating the Cleveland Browns 24-6 to move to 7-8 overall on the season.
The win kept Cincinnati's slim playoff hopes alive heading into the season's final two weeks. On Monday, the Bengals went forward with some roster management, signing defensive end Isaiah Thomas off the practice squad to the active roster and releasing quarterback Logan Woodside. Cincinnati had previously promoted Thomas to the active roster on Sunday, but he did not see action.
Thomas has played 12 NFL regular season games in his career, including two earlier this year with the Detroit Lions. He made three tackles in those two appearances.
In 2022, Thomas played in 10 games for the Cleveland Browns, finishing with nine tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery and two pass breakups.
As for Woodside, he was originally a seventh-round pick of the Bengals in 2018 but has never played in a regular season game for the organization.
Woodside made 11 appearances for the Tennessee Titans in 2020-21 and two for the Atlanta Falcons in 2022-23. He's 4-of-7 passing for 34 yards and an interception in his career, along with 10 rushing yards on 14 carries.
Should Woodside clear waivers, it seems likely the Bengals would bring him back on the practice squad to continue serving as the No. 3 QB behind Joe Burrow and Jake Browning.
Cincinnati needs to win its final two games against the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers and get some help in order to reach the postseason. In addition to those two wins, the Bengals need the Broncos to finish 0-2 and the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins to each lose one of their final two games.
“This one just keeps us in the race,” Burrow said after Sunday's win. “It feels good to play in big games. It's exciting to still be in it.”
