The Cincinnati Bengals have one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in Joe Burrow, and they would like to protect him in the pocket as much as they possibly can.
Bengals Wire's Chris Rolling believes there is a free agent that has not been signed to a team that Cincinnati could be beneficial to the team, and that is Pro Bowl guard Brandon Scherff.
"A former high-end first-round pick, there are questions as to whether Scherff wants to keep playing at the age of 33. He'd come in as a starter, though, which is a boon to find at this stage of the market," Rolling wrote.
Scherff has been with the Jacksonville Jaguars the last three seasons, and has not missed a game, which shows that he can still be consistent as he gets older.
He is a five-time Pro Bowler, and was named First Team All-Pro back in 2020 with Washington. He might not be the offensive lineman that he once was, but he could still provide a solid veteran presence to a line that is in need of some help.
Burrow was the fourth-most sacked quarterback in the NFL in 2024, as he was taken down 48 times. Adding one offensive lineman is not going to fix all of that right away, but he could share his wisdom with the rest of the Bengals' line.
The Bengals are looking to bounce back from missing the playoffs in 2024, and adding some veteran help on the line could be in the team's best interests.
