Bengals urged to fill last major need in free agency with big name

The Cincinnati Bengals feel like a team clearing cap space for additional moves this summer around training camp, at least based on the latest contract restructure.

Whether the Bengals really end up making a move to reinforce struggling positions remains to be seen, though -- and the team wasn't exactly hurting for cap space before players took pay cuts.

Either way, Pro Football Focus' Mason Cameron is someone who wants to see the Bengals go out and grab Brandon Scherff in free agency to boost the offensive line in front of Joe Burrow: "Signing Brandon Scherff would amplify the unit, as his 78.0 PFF pass-blocking grade over the past two seasons ranks in the 94th percentile."

As the writeup addresses one last move every AFC team should make, it's only natural for the Bengals section to focus on the offensive line. The team bringing back Cody Ford, signing Lucas Patrick and drafting Dylan Fairchild doesn't exactly inspire confidence when they entered the offseason needing two new starters at the guard spots.

Still, one could also write that the Bengals need to upgrade in the defensive secondary with a free-agent name like Justin Simmons, too.

When it comes to Scherff, there's speculation about whether he wants to keep playing, plus the argument the Bengals don't really like players on the market over the age of 30(and Scherff is 33). But he'd be a starter and upgrade, so it certainly makes sense from that angle.
