Browns Labeled 'Inhospitable' as Veteran Quarterback Destination

The Cleveland Browns will be looking to secure a quarterback this offseason. The move is necessary after Deshaun Watson's second Achilles injury in three months in early January.

It's entirely possible Watson may not have been a factor next season anyway, but his latest injury will most likely keep him out all of 2025 and he may have played his last down in Cleveland, if not the NFL.

The Browns have options with the No. 2 overall pick in April's NFL Draft, but it's unknown if they'll use it on Cam Ward, or Shedeur Sanders, or go a different direction altogether.

Bleacher Report published a list of potential free-agent quarterbacks for this season and some teams that might be good fits for some of them to "revive their careers."

The published piece was not kind to the Browns, listing Cleveland in the worst possible category, "inhospitable," and in 12th place out of 12 teams.

12. Cleveland Browns: Deshaun Watson doesn’t look as though he’ll be a factor, but the Browns are a bad, dysfunctional team (again) and could also take a quarterback second overall. This is better than no starting job at all, but it shouldn't even be Jameis Winston's top choice.

With or without Watson in the mix, the Browns were most certainly going to start to look at quarterbacks this offseason. And let's not forget the track record in Cleveland since 1999 when the team re-entered the league.

The Browns have started 40 quarterbacks in that time, including 14 since 2017 when Myles Garrett was drafted - maybe part of the reason he wants out of town. Cleveland started four quarterbacks last season and five the year before en route to a playoff appearance behind Joe Flacco.

But it's time to stop piecing together a quarterback room and find a long-term answer.
