Browns’ Myles Garrett Sends Strong Message to Cowboys

Cleveland Browns edge Myles Garrett understands what it’s like to deal with a contract situation. After requesting a trade during the offseason, Garrett eventually signed with the Browns to an extension that makes him one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in NFL history. Garrett landed a four-year, $160 million deal, something he deserved. 

The Browns understand that he’s one of the better players in NFL history, and there’s a price tag that comes along with that. 

For other stars, however, it isn’t that easy. Just ask Micah Parsons of the Dallas Cowboys, a team that hasn’t been willing to pay their star edge out of Penn State. 

When speaking to reporters, Garrett sent some words of encouragement to Parsons and urged the Cowboys to make a decision on him. He added that he deserves whatever is coming his way, which is certainly the case after posting 52.5 sacks throughout his first four years in the NFL. 

“I think he deserves whatever he’s earned,” Garrett told Abby Jones of DLLS Sports. “I mean, the guy is special. Once I got the chance to train with him, I’ve seen his work ethic, I’ve seen how he attacks the weights, running. He’s 100% committed to his craft and getting better every day, and someone who produces on the field and has that dedication to the game. He should get every penny he’s owed.”

Where Do Things Stand Between Cowboys and Parsons?

The Dallas Cowboys and Parsons have had some conversations, but Jerry Jones hasn’t taken any action. 

When speaking to reporters about how his conversations have gone with Jones, Parsons said that he’s been talking to him about football things and what he did during the offseason. 

That could be a good indication that the Cowboys don’t plan to do what the Cleveland Browns did when they paid Garrett, but it wouldn’t make much sense for that to be the case.

“We were talking about how my offseason has been, the training I’ve been putting in,” Parsons said, per ESPN. “He was telling me I look pretty good, so I got excited about that. Asking me about the trip I just went on. It was a pretty good conversation. Then obviously just stepping up and being a leader and how much he appreciates it. And that means a lot to me.”

What Would Parsons’ Extension Look Like?

Regarding what Parsons could be looking at, he might break the market. 

Recently trying to predict his next deal, Last Word on Sports believes that the Dallas Cowboys All-Pro could be looking at at least $42 million per year. 

That’d beat Garrett’s extension by $2 million, but given he’s much younger at 26 years old, and the market is the market and it only goes up after each contract, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Parsons get this deal. 

“By this point, any chance Dallas had to keep Parsons closer to the Bosa line was long gone. With Garrett and Chase both signing deals topping $40 million a year, Parsons has every reason to expect to beat that number.

“Had Dallas acted when they first had the opportunity, they’d likely be looking at $34-36 million per year. Now? $42 million per year might be the floor,” they wrote.
