The trade that brought Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson to town can only be described as an unmitigated disaster.
Even owner Jimmy Haslam finally admitted at the owner's meeting earlier this year that the trade was a failure.
“We took a big swing-and-miss with Deshaun,” Haslam said recently at the league’s annual meeting. “We thought we had the quarterback; we didn’t. And we gave up a lot of draft picks to get him, so we’ve got to dig ourselves out of that hole.
“… [The trade] was an entire organization decision and it ends with Dee [Haslam] and I, so hold us accountable.”
After ending his 2024 season early with a torn Achilles tendon in October, Watson re-tore the Achilles in January, virtually ending his 2025 season before it began, and jeopardizing his future with the Browns and in the NFL.
But while he is rehabbing, he's making plans with long-time girlfriend, Jilly Anais.
Back in March she posted pictures with Watson and announced their engagement. On Tuesday, the couple made another announcement, this time on Instagram with a photo of them sitting in a yellow Ferrari.
The caption read, “The Watsons… coming soon”
The Browns' quarterback room has shifted since last season. General manager Andrew Berry spent two draft picks on rookie quarterbacks Dillon Garbiel and Shedeur Sanders, and signed veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett.
As Cleveland appears to be ready to move on from Watson, he appears to feel the same about the Browns. ... but he's also moving happily, soon enough, into marriage.
