Browns Urged to Sign Ex No. 2 Overall Pick to Improve Pass Rush

The Cleveland Browns could be stuck between a rock and a hard place on defense. Star pass rusher Myles Garrett recently very publicly demanded a trade out of town to play "for a contender," which Cleveland won't be.

Browns Urged to Sign Ex No. 2 Overall Pick to Improve Pass Rush

The Browns have been vocal about not trading him, and Garrett doubled down at the NFL Combine this week. He told the media that he would not discuss a contract extension with Cleveland and stood by his original request for a trade.

Whether Garrett is in Cleveland or not, it still needs to address its defense.

James Mastrucci of Dawg Pound Daily has an idea for the Browns to address the defensive line aside from Garrett, and it's to bring in former Washington, San Francisco and New Orleans pass rusher Chase Young.

"Young's career seems to be getting back on track after a couple of years of being unavailable and unproductive," Mastrucci wrote. "The soon-to-be 26-year-old has registered 13 of his 22 career sacks over the past two seasons, including 5.5 in 17 games for the New Orleans Saints last season."

Young was originally selected by the Commanders with the No. 2 overall pick in 2020 out of Ohio State and was considered by many to be a generational talent. He showed some of that his rookie year en route to 44 tackles with 32 solo and 10 for loss, 12 quarterback hits, 7.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

The former Buckeye was the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year and received Pro Bowl honors.

But injuries have derailed Young's career. He's just 25 years old and will turn 26 in April before the next NFL season starts.

He had a resurgence of sorts last season in New Orleans with 5.5 sacks and still could have a lot of football left in him. He could look really good in a Browns uniform.
