Bruins Exploring Trade Market Upgrades Amid Struggling Start

The Boston Bruins, struggling to find their footing early in the 2024–25 season, seem to be gearing up to complete some transactions before March's trade deadline.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, the Bruins are already exploring the trade market trying to find something that fits their current roster needs.

Making an appearance during Sportsnet’s "Saturday Headlines" segment over the weekend, Friedman noted the team’s sense of urgency following another loss.

“Boston lost again today,” Friedman said. “They've definitely been out there looking to see if there's something they can do to shake them up.

”There’s definitely a lot of intensity in Boston.”

The Bruins have stumbled to an 8–8–3 record, with offensive struggles highlighted by the absence of several key forwards lost during the offseason and a lack of production from those incoming.

Friedman's report about Boston's search for reinforcements isn't breaking news, but paired with earlier reports speaking about the Bruins' plans it seems to confirm the interest in adding some new pieces that can boost the team's results.

According to an NHL executive who talked to RG.org on Nov. 12, the Bruins are focused on bolstering their top-six forward group, particularly with a scoring winger or potentially another center.

“It’s no secret that he wants a scoring winger for the top-6,” the executive told RG’s James Murphy. “But don’t be surprised if he snags another top-6 center.”

The Bruins are a far cry from their record-breaking form of two seasons ago when they won 65 games, the most in NHL history. After winning 47 games last year but making it to the second round of the playoffs, Boston is on pace to win just 34 this season.
