Martin Necas might be eyeing the exit in Colorado, and if that’s true, the Boston Bruins need to be ready to make their move.
Kypreos report suggests Necas may want out
Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos included Necas on his latest off-season trade board, and there was a surprising note attached to the 26-year-old forward’s name.
There was a sense Necas wasn’t overly thrilled with his experience in Colorado and that he wants to explore other options,
Kypreos wrote.
That line alone should grab the attention of Bruins general manager Don Sweeney. If the Avalanche are open to moving him, Boston should be one of the first teams on the phone.
Necas could be the missing piece for the Bruins’ top six
The Bruins need offense, badly. With Brad Marchand traded and the team trying to retool on the fly, the forward group is thin on high-end talent beyond David Pastrnak.
Necas, fresh off a career-best season with 27 goals, 56 assists, and 83 points in 79 games, fits exactly what Boston lacks: pace, vision, and dual-threat scoring. His ability to play both center and wing gives Boston lineup flexibility they haven’t had in years.
He also brings youth and playoff experience, which the Boston Bruins desperately need if they want to stay competitive while rebuilding on the fly.
Pastrnak connection makes this even more intriguing
It’s no secret that Necas and Pastrnak have chemistry from international play. Both have represented Czechia on the biggest stages, and pairing them together in Boston would be a natural fit.
If the Bruins could land Necas and line him up next to Pastrnak, it might finally give the star winger a consistent running mate.
Their complementary skill sets, Necas’ speed and creativity with Pastrnak’s elite shot, could give Boston a new top line that doesn’t have to rely on old legs.
Boston can’t afford to sit back if Necas is truly available
Necas isn’t a rental. He’s 26, right in the middle of his prime, and coming off a legitimate breakout year. If the Avalanche feel they can’t re-sign him long-term or if he simply wants a new opportunity, the Bruins need to be aggressive.

With cap space opening up and prospects developing, adding a player like Necas gives the Bruins more than just scoring, it gives them a direction.
He’s not a gamble.
He’s a proven NHL producer with more upside to unlock. And if Sweeney is serious about building a contender again in short order, Necas is the kind of swing worth taking.
