The Bruins should have this Islanders forward on their wish list.
The Boston Bruins are reportedly looking to bolster their top six. This development is not surprising, as they have had trouble creating offense for much of this season.
The Bruins could use another top-six forward who can play both down the middle and on the wing. Thus, one interesting player they should have on their radar this season is New York Islanders forward Brock Nelson.
Nelson, 33, is in the final season of his contract on a struggling Islanders club. If the Islanders are unable to turn things around and Nelson does not have an extension later in the year, we could see him become available near the deadline. If he is, the Bruins would be wise to make a push for him.
Nelson has had a decent start to the season, posting six goals and nine points in his first 16 games. However, when looking at his previous seasons, there is clear reason to believe that he can heat up. He scored at least 34 goals over his three previous seasons. In addition, he had 75 points in 2022-23 and 69 points in 2023-24, so he can be a significant difference-maker when playing at his best.
In a potential move, the Bruins would likely need the Islanders to retain a portion of Nelson's salary and send at least one of their NHL players with other assets to New York.
