Through the first two weeks of the 2024 NFL season, Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin can be summed up with just one word; perfect.
The eight-year veteran has been nothing short of sure-handed for the Buccaneers offense so far, hauling in all 15 of his on-target throws, per PFF. Godwin’s 15 receptions and 200 receiving yards are both currently tied for second-most in the NFL in their respective categories. While his two touchdowns are tied for the leagues most with 10 other players, including Mike Evans.
Not only does Godwin hold the top WR PFF grade of 91.7, but Bucs QB Baker Mayfield currently has a perfect passer rating of 158.3 when targeting Godwin.
Former Buccaneers CB Carlton Davis III was said to have given the Lions defense “the best WR scouting report,” per Lions Defensive Coordinator Aaron Glen prior to Sunday’s NFC Divisional Round rematch. However, it didn’t take Godwin long to exploit his matchups to turn in another stellar performance, as the Buccaneers got out to a 2-0 start on the young 2024 season.
As the Liam Coen offense has provided the team and fans new wrinkles into the playbook, the veteran WR has seen a snap alignment of 58.2% in the slot, compared to 37.4% last season.
Godwin is on pace for 128 receptions, 1700 yards and 17 touchdowns, in the final season of his 3-year $60M contract.
