Caitlin Clark Controversy Fueled by Commanders Ex RGIII Opinion

RGIII brought some news to the Washington Commanders with his take on the Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese rivalry.

Rivalries are great for any sport, not just in the NFL. The Washington Commanders, for instance, have many standing rivalries within their division.

Sometimes, though, players have great rivalries with other stars in their league. That's what is happening in the WNBA right now with Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark.

The two stars have been tied together since the two faced off in the National Championship three years ago. With Clark's Indiana Fever getting the jump on Reese's Chicago Sky, their run in the WNBA seems to just be getting started.

In Saturday's win for the Fever, though, both seemed to get into an altercation that left Reese with a technical foul, and Clark called for a flagrant.

While many players in the WNBA and other sports have weight in, former Commanders second overall pick Robert Griffin III has issued an interesting thought to the proceedings.

"Angel Reese isn’t just some jealous Black woman," Griffin said. "Angel is an NCAA Champion and great basketball player. She’s a competitor who has shown she doesn’t like how Caitlin Clark is crowned while she’s criticized for showing the same confidence and fire in her own way. That’s not an assumption, that’s what Angel Reese has said and shown us all.

"People care about rivalries. Rivalries aren’t built on handshakes. They are forged in fire, fouls, and pride. Angel Reese wants to beat and outshine Caitlin Clark...Over time the hate and resentment has built up from all this. You could see it in her overreaction to the routine basketball play foul. I’m just the one not afraid to say it."

For RGIII to claim Reese is jealous of Clark is stunning. … But …

He's an athlete on television with an insider view and sees the game a different way from most people.

And in this case, RGIII's controversial take offers a new outlook to the WNBA.
