The countdown to NFL free agency is almost over, prompting experts to try their hand at predicting where the league's top available players will end up in 2025.
CBS Sports published a list of senior NFL writer Pete Prisco's top available free agents ahead of the free agency floodgates opening and a follow-up list of predictions for the top 10 available players, including cornerback Carlton Davis.
Davis is predicted to return to the Detroit Lions with a raise and multi-year deal in an effort to retain a veteran presence and a sense of continuity to combat all of the offseason's coaching changes for the team. He's coming off of a solid season that ended early when he broke his jaw prior to the postseason.
The Lions have already started making a handful of smaller moves to strengthen the defense early, most recently giving linebacker Derrick Barnes a contract extension despite an injury that saw him miss significant time in 2024. Davis, Khalil Dorsey, and Kindle Vildor are their three cornerbacks from last season who have yet to find a landing spot before the official start of the free agency window.
Davis, 28, held opposing quarterbacks to a 62.7 passer rating as the primary defender last season, the 15th-lowest in the league with a minimum of 70 pass attempts faced. The Lions acquired him and two 6th-round picks from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last offseason in exchange for the Lions' 2023 3rd-round pick.
