9 free agents for Celtics to possibly sign

With Jayson Tatum likely out for most, if not all, of the 2025-26 season, the Celtics need to look ahead to the future and consider parting ways with one of their core veterans, who have all been mentioned in trade rumors.

At the same time, the Celtics need to keep their eye on the free agent market as well. They have five players set to hit free agency. While Boston would like to keep most of them, it may not be possible to do so.

That said, free agent Torrey Craig recently expressed his desire to stay in Boston on CLNS Media’s Garden Report this week, despite just arriving this season.

"Boston, in general, is just an amazing experience, the veteran said. I think it starts with the people and the fans here. From my first day here, I felt welcome with open arms, just going to different events, autograph signings, and seeing the love and the amount of support that these fans bring to the Celtics. It’s literally diehard Boston, ‘bleed green’ fans, so just to experience that was amazing.

I still don’t feel like I really got that chance to make my presence felt the way I wanted it to, Craig added."

The veteran forward joined the Celtics after the trade deadline in February. The Chicago Bulls waived Craig, which opened the door for him to make his way to Boston.

Craig didn’t play much this season, averaging 2.7 points in 11.8 minutes per game (17 games). The same thing happened in the postseason, as the veteran played a total of 21 minutes across five games.

That said, with Tatum on the shelf and Al Horford also an unrestricted free agent, Craig could be due for a bigger role if re-signed. Given his age and production this season, it wouldn’t cost the Celtics much to re-sign Craig.

If the Celtics truly do “re-tool” their roster this offseason, they will need guys like Craig to fill out the roster and to step up next season
