There have been several big Kansas City Chiefs stories this week ahead of camp, but none bigger than Rashee Rice’s unexpected preseason legal update that was reported on July 17.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid addressed that news head-on when he spoke on the eve of KC’s 2025 training camp on July 20.
“As far as Rashee [Rice] goes, I mean, that’s obvious news out there now,” Reid began. “We’re going to progress as normal with him.”
“He’ll go in and take all the reps that he’d normally take,” the Chiefs HC went on to explain. “We always rotate that position, so depending on what happens here in the future, whoever needs to play will be able to step in — they’ll know what they’re doing and be in good shape to do it.”

Reid also provided a firm “no” when asked if he had any idea of the NFL league office’s timeline for deciding on a potential punishment.
The veteran head coach confirmed that he has not had any conversations with the NFL about this matter yet either.
On July 17, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter relayed a quote from Brian McCarthy of NFL communications, which read: “We have been closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review.”
Chiefs WR Rashee Rice Takes Accountability for Actions in Public Statement
After the news of Rice’s sentencing and the conclusion of his criminal trial, the Chiefs star showed accountability in the following statement.
“Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas,” the statement began (via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport). “There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole. I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart.
“Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families.”
Hopefully, the key Chiefs playmaker has learned from this off-field incident and will better himself moving forward.
Chiefs HC Andy Reid Doesn’t Shy Away From High Expectations Ahead of Training Camp
Andy Reid spoke on a lot of different topics on Sunday evening, and one of them was the high expectations that the Chiefs have entering the 2025 campaign.
“The expectations are always high, and that’s a plus,” Reid noted during the Sunday presser. “The guys [who] have been here have earned that right to have it that way. But at the same time, you know, you’ve got to maintain that and even strive to be better. [The] AFC West is a tough conference, and it’s not getting any worse, that’s for sure.”
Considering their recent Super Bowl and AFC Championship track record, no team goes into a season with the same expectations as the Chiefs every year. Clearly, Reid isn’t shying away from that.
“This part stays tough,” the Chiefs HC said earlier, regarding training camp. “It’s not an easy — it’s never an easy camp. It builds your foundation that you can bank on.”
Reid added that it’s “important that the guys come in [with] the right frame of mind.” The veterans of the KC locker room already “know that,” per Reid, and they then pass that knowledge on to the newcomers and younger players.
He concluded that this all “helps us in the long haul.”
