Kansas City Chiefs receiver DeAndre Hopkins might have only been with the team for 10 games, but the veteran wasted no time taking rookie Xavier Worthy under his wing.
With Hopkins having to get acclimated to a new playbook, teammates, and city, one would think that his dance cart was full. But the All-Pro also mentored Worthy, and the rookie's results over the last seven games have been superb.
Now, as Worthy approaches his first playoff game, and Hopkins his first since 2019, the veteran has reflected on the mentorship he undertook with Worthy.
"It's easy when you've got someone like him whose willing to work, willing to learn and ask questions," Hopkins said. "He definitely reminded me of myself when I was young around Andre Johnson, just asking questions and absorbing, not just on the field but off the field, how to get his body prepared for big games. It's been fun."
With the Chiefs beginning their playoff assault against the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round, both Hopkins and Worthy will play key roles in getting Andy Reid's offense rolling at Arrowhead.
Having not played a meaningful game in the last three weeks, the Chiefs will hope that they won't be slow out of the starting blocks and that Patrick Mahomes and the offense won't take too long to click into gear.
Worthy has had a good end to the regular season, and now we're about to see if he can put everything that he's learned from Hopkins into practice when the season is on the line.
