The Kansas City Chiefs will look to stay undefeated on Sunday when they face the San Francisco 49ers.
While the Chiefs are normally so successful because of their explosive offense, this season their success has come from their defense. Kansas City's defense has especially excelled at stopping big plays. They've yielded the second-fewest plays of 10-plus yards (51) and 20-plus yards (12) in the league.
The Chiefs' run defense has been especially formidable so far. They allow just 88 rushing yards per game, which is the fifth-fewest in the league.
Meanwhile, the 49ers have excelled on offense in the same categories. They rank third in the league in rushing yards-per-game (158), and they have the most 20-plus yard plays (31) of any team in the NFL.
A big contributor to the 49ers' success so far this year has been breakout running back Jordan Mason. He has the second-most rushing yards in the league (609) this year after he stepped up for the injured Christian McCaffrey in Week 1. Mason missed a lot of San Francisco's Week 6 win due to a shoulder injury, but he is expected to be ready to go on Sunday.
Luckily for the Chiefs, they will enter the game healthy on defense, meaning both sides will be entering the matchup with their best possible unit (aside from McCaffrey). With both teams excelling in the same areas on each side, something will have to give on Sunday, and it may end up being what decides the game.
