The Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills will battle it out in the AFC Championship game at Arrowhead Stadium, with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line.
In the postseason, mistakes are magnified, as we saw with Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens against the Bills in the Divisional Round. Fumbles and interceptions are costly in a regular setting, but they are even more so in the playoffs.
With the Chiefs looking to make their third straight Super Bowl and the Bills their first under Josh Allen, Mahomes knows what will decide whether his team goes home or advances to yet another Super Bowl.
“If you look at just the NFL in general, I think every team that's won the turnover battle has won the football game in the playoffs so far this year,” Mahomes said. “That's super important for us. Buffalo does a great job of it. I don't think they've lost one the entire season so just trying to protect the football, when defense gets opportunities, try to take the football away and then just let the game come to you, don't press, and don't try to do too much. So it's extremely important, especially in the playoffs and especially when you go up against some of the best teams.”
The Chiefs and Bills have been among the best at not giving away the football over the last two months.
Kansas City hasn't had an offensive turnover in its last eight games, and the Bills have just one over that same span.
So the takeaway battle will be a key element to watch in this contest because neither give it away too often, so they will be like gold.
