Chiefs Send Parting Message to Retiring Longtime Mascot

The Kansas City Chiefs are no strangers to big offseason changes, but this one’s a little different — and it’s hitting fans right in the feels. While players come and go and coaches switch sidelines, there’s one familiar face that has been a constant for decades.

After 35 years of pumping up Arrowhead Stadium, the man behind the Chiefs’ beloved mascot, Dan Meers, is calling it a career. That’s right, Meers — who portrayed the Chiefs' official mascot, K. C. Wolf, for years — is hanging up his suit before the new season kicks off, leaving behind some truly big paws to fill.

The news was confirmed by the Chiefs on their official X account recently. They posted a video along with a caption that said, "The NFL's longest-tenured mascot is officially hanging up the suit. Thank you Dan for your commitment to Chiefs Kingdom over the past 35 years."

Speaking on his departure, Meers shared his thoughts on his last 35 years with the Chiefs. He said, "This was the greatest job in the world. I worked for the greatest sports franchise in the world with the greatest owners in the world and the greatest fans in the world."

Over the years, Meers has racked up over 10,000 events across 38 states and 12 countries. Schools, hospitals, weddings, proposals, fundraisers—he’s done it all, and still showed up to pump up Arrowhead every game day.

What’s wild is how humbly it all started, but he turned it into something truly special that’s brought smiles to countless faces, both on and off the field.
