The New Orleans Saints' 2025 NFL draft was not widely celebrated across the country this past spring after coach Kellen Moore's team selected nine talented yet relatively unknown players including five defensive players.
Coach Moore's draft haul has had a chance to show what it can do during 2025 training camp at Crawford Field at the University of Cal-Irvine, culminating in Sunday's preseason opener against the home state Chargers and their head coach Jim Harbaugh.
The Saints played two QBs on the day, Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough, and it was the latter who caught the eye of former Redskins draft pick and NFL analyst Robert Griffin III.
Griffin III appeared to essentially live blog Shough's game as the Saints battled Harbaugh's squad at SoFi Stadium in the City of Angels.
"What the Shough is going on?!!" Griffin III asked as the Saints rookie second round pick out of Louisville tossed a misguided pick six into the arms of Chargers rookie Eric Rogers.
Shough bounced back as he showed the resolve and moxie that made him a favorite of Moore, the former Boise State quarterback turned NFL offensive coordinator and now Saints head coach who knows a thing or two about the passing game and playing QB at a high level.
"Bounce back TD bomb," Griffin III added as he shared a 54-yard TD toss from the Saints rookie.
"Can we agree that none of the QBs will be the answer for the Saints? I'm not convinced," another reader added.
"QB1 has entered the chat," another person said on X in the comments section.
Shough had completed 14-of-20 passes for 165 yards and touchdown and an interception as the Saints found themselves down 17-10 in the fourth quarter.
The game came during Eric Allen's Hall of Fame induction comments on the New Orleans franchise, where he spent time during his illustrious career. Former Saints superstar Drew Brees made a Tom Brady/Peyton Manning comment that gained attention.
The Saints have a lot of sifting to do before they find their top QB prior to the 2025-26 season.
Meanwhile, Shough and Rattler keep plugging along with their eyes on the prize, the starting job, this season in the Big Easy.
