Colin Cowherd Offered A Job To NFL Quarterback Baker Mayfield

Colin Cowherd has often criticized Baker Mayfield, but he's apparently a bigger fan of the quarterback off the football field.

Colin Cowherd Offered A Job To NFL Quarterback Baker Mayfield

The sports pundit called Mayfield "undraftable" out of Oklahoma and doubled down on that claim during the No. 1 pick's second season. Cowherd then questioned Mayfield's ability to ever lead an NFL team after he wore a hat backward. Mayfield trolled Cowherd after leading the Cleveland Browns to a playoff win right after that hot take.

Despite all those quibbles, Cowherd sees a lot of potential in Mayfield. On Monday's The Herd, the FS1 host revealed that he offered Mayfield a job with his podcasting company, The Volume, last year.

"I think he's gonna be a great broadcaster, if he wants to," Cowherd said, via Awful Announcing. "He passed. He declined. Totally get it."

Mayfield is also forcing Cowherd to revisit his stance on the quarterback. After tossing four scores in Sunday's 40-17 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, the 29-year-old has compiled a career-high 32 passing touchdowns with three weeks remaining.

The former Heisman Trophy winner also has tallied the league's fourth-most passing yards (3,617) and third-highest completion percentage (70.8) for the 8-6 Buccaneers, who lead the NFC South following four consecutive victories.

Regardless of how Mayfield wears his hats, Cowherd isn't writing off the Buccaneers if they make the postseason.

"But I'm watching him, it's perfect," Cowherd said. "He's got the grit, and he's a perfect fit. This team is great for him. I would not want any part of Tampa in the playoffs."

Despite saying four years ago that Mayfield wouldn't be anything more than a game manager, Cowherd claimed Monday that he's never doubted Mayfield's ability. He simply saw him as a "rebel" and "outlaw."

Cowherd landed NBA star Draymond Green for his podcasting network, but Mayfield understandably passed on the opportunity. He'll look to continue a career year when the Buccaneers face the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday night.
