Commanders acquire illustrious former rival in latest offseason prediction

The Washington Commanders seem pretty set at the wide receiver position from the outside looking in. That didn't stop one NFL analyst from touting another Pro Bowl-caliber performer as someone who can help head coach Dan Quinn's squad get over the hump.

Adam Peters knew he needed to get star quarterback Jayden Daniels more assistance in the passing game. The Commanders traded for Deebo Samuel Sr. They coaxed Michael Gallup out of retirement and used the No. 128 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft on Jaylin Lane. That's only going to help, but Washington could bolster the unit further if the situation dictates.

Peters will let things play out over the upcoming workouts to see how things are progressing. If he decides more is needed, Moe Moton from The Bleacher Report thought taking a swing at Amari Cooper should be something to consider.

Cooper wasn't at his best following his trade to the Buffalo Bills last season. Injuries didn't help, but Moton believes there is still enough left in the tank to help Daniels if the money works for all parties.

Even though [Amari] Cooper is coming off a down year largely because of injuries, he's still a technical route-runner. Also, the veteran-savvy receiver saw a notable increase in his catch rate after the Cleveland Browns traded him to the Buffalo Bills, improving from 45.3 to 62.5 percent. If Cooper prefers to play with a young quarterback like Josh Allen, the Washington Commanders could be an option if the interest is mutual. With Deebo Samuel and Cooper, Jayden Daniels, the 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year, would continue to ascend as one of the league's most promising signal-callers.Moe Moton

It's surprising to see Cooper still sitting on the proverbial scrap heap. The five-time Pro Bowler went over 10,000 career receiving yards last season, but his powers have waned over the last two years. That's giving teams enough cause for concern, although it would be a shock if the former first-round pick out of Alabama wasn't on a roster by the time Week 1 rolled around.

Quinn knows Cooper well from their one season together together on the Dallas Cowboys in 2021. This should enable a smooth transition, and the fact Washington is ready to win immediately makes them a tempting destination.

It's fun to think about. Even so, signing Cooper is unlikely unless an unfortunate injury occurs in the not-too-distant future.

There is a nice blend of youth and experience in the room currently. The skills complement each other well, so this could be the group tasked with helping Daniels take his game to even greater heights in 2025.
