Commanders Get Brutal Sam Cosmi Injury Update

The Washington Commanders are on cloud nine after their 45-31 Divisional Round win over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field.

Commanders Get Brutal Sam Cosmi Injury Update

After such a great season, the Commanders have continued their feel-good story into the playoffs - but now we have some bad news regarding right guard Sam Cosmi.

Cosmi was injured in the win over Detroit, and Trent Scott came in to relieve him and, in truth, didn't miss a beat.

But now head coach Dan Quinn has offered up a brutal update on Sam's injury and it is not good news for Washington.

"Unfortunately, some tough news on Sam, he does have an ACL injury that will knock him out for the rest of the season," Quinn said. "So he's been a significant part of what we're doing, especially interior, so that's a big deal, the ball player and the man."

It is a huge blow to the Commanders, who have been relatively lucky with the injury bug this season. Now, as the biggest game of the season approaches, they lose their starting right guard.

Scott stepped in well against Detroit, but will he get the nod in the NFC title game?

"Trent took the bulk of the reps inside [vs. Lions] as we go and as we get into this week we'll see what all the matchups and how we want to go about it," Quinn added.

It has been a superb season by any metric you want to use, but this Cosmi news is a big blow to the Commanders' chances of progressing. But despite this, Washington will still have all the belief in the world that it can continue in the same manner, even without their stud right guard.
