The Washington Commanders were one of the biggest surprises in the NFL during the 2024 season. Jayden Daniels and company made a shocking run all the way to the NFC championship game.
While they came up short in that game against the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, the future could not look better. Looking ahead to the 2024 season, the Commanders are a legitimate contender.
One big move Washington made this offseason was to acquire wide receiver Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers.
Samuel has struggled over the past couple of years, but there is no question he could be a valuable weapon for Daniels. He likely isn't going to be a superstar, but he could be a playmaker in the right role.
Adam Peters, the Commanders' general manager, made an appearance on the "Up & Adams Show," where he revealed more about his expectations for Samuel within the offense.
"Anytime you can surround any quarterback with a weapon, you know, where they can do the work, they can really make a play out of nothing, that makes anybody better," Peters said. "But I think the way Kliff's offense is run, you know, you can get a catch-and-run guy like Deebo, you know, and he can play in the backfield, he can play in the slot, he can play outside, he can go deep, but he can also do a lot of screens. So those things just open up the offense and allow us to be more multiple on offense."
During his final season with the 49ers in 2024, Samuel played in 15 games. He caught 51 passes for 670 yards and three touchdowns, while also carrying the football 42 times for 136 yards and a score on the ground.
Looking at the offense around Daniels, Washington has put a great supporting cast in place for their second-year signal caller.
Led by Terry McLaurin, the Commanders will also featured Samuel, Noah Brown and fellow newcomer Michael Gallup. Daniels is primed for what could be an even bigger year two.
