Commanders Trail Falcons at Half as Offense Struggles

The Washington Commanders head into halftime of “Sunday Night Football” at Northwest Stadium down 17-7 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Jayden Daniels and the Commanders’ offense have struggled so far. Daniels finished the half with just 92 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception. He does lead the team with 25 rushing yards.

Star receiver Terry McLaurin was silent in the first half, finishing with just one catch for five yards. Meanwhile receiver Olamide Zaccheaus leads the team with five catches for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Overall, Washington’s defense has performed well against rookie Michael Penix Jr., who enters halftime with just 98 passing yards, no touchdowns and an interception.

However, the Commanders’ defense has been unable to stop star Bijan Robinson so far. Robinson heads into halftime with 82 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 13 attempts.

Defensive back Quan Martin has led the way for Washington’s defense with a team-leading six combined tackles and an interception.

In the second half, Washington will likely need to win in the trenches, not just against Robinson, but also in the pass rush. The Commanders’ defense did not record a single sack in the half, while the Falcons got to Daniels for two sacks.

If the Commanders are able to come back and win in the second half, they will officially punch their ticket to the 2024 playoffs just one year after holding the second-overall pick in the draft.
