Lightning Lose Defenseman To Western Conference Club

Nick Perbix's time with the Tampa Bay Lightning has officially come to an end.

After hitting the market as an unrestricted free agent (UFA), Perbix has signed a two-year, $5.5 million contract with the Nashville Predators.

NHL Predictions: Lightning Look To Extend Win Streak Against Wild

It was confirmed shortly before the start of free agency that Perbix would become a UFA. Now, he has found his new home and will look to help the Predators get things back on track from here.

Perbix, 27, spent each of the last three seasons with the Lightning. In 220 games as a Bolt, he recorded 13 goals, 50 assists, 63 points, and a plus-27 rating. This included six goals, 19 points, and a plus-8 rating in 74 contests this past campaign.

When looking at the Predators' roster, Perbix should be a solid addition to their group. It was no secret that they needed help on their right side, and Perbix should be a nice fit in their top four because of it.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are losing one of their depth goaltenders.

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, the Edmonton Oilers are signing goaltender Matt Tomkins.

Tomkins spent this season with the Lightning's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. In 26 games this campaign for the AHL squad, he recorded a 12-10-4 record, a .907 save percentage, and a 2.55 goals-against average. This was after he had a 15-12-2 record, a .904 save percentage, and a 2.53 goals-against average in 29 games in 2023-24 with Syracuse.

Tomkins also played in three games with the Lightning during the 2023-24 season, where he posted a 3-2-1 record, a 3.33 goals-against average, and a .892 save percentage. He did not make an appearance for the Lightning this past season.

Overall, Tomkins has been a solid AHL goalie in the Lightning's system, so the Crunch will certainly miss having him around. Now, he will likely serve in a similar role with the Oilers organization from here.
