Commanders WR Terry McLaurin on verge of breaking franchise record on 'SNF'

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin has been the heartbeat of the team's offense since being drafted in 2019.

This season, he's having a career year and is nearing the most receiving yards he's ever logged in a single campaign (1,191).

In fact, his 12 touchdowns to date are tied with four other players for the single-season franchise record.

If McLaurin finds the end zone once on "Sunday Night Football" Week 17 against the Atlanta Falcons, he'll be the first in franchise history to score at least 13 touchdowns in one year.

The Ohio State product is also one of just five players in league history to record 900 or more receiving yards in each of his first six seasons.

Washington is not only squarely in the hunt for a playoff spot but also still has a shot at the NFC East crown with a win over Atlanta on Sunday.

A successful night for McLaurin will be key to getting one step closer to the team's first postseason appearance since the 2020-21 season.

With two games remaining, McLaurin could double his previous career-high of seven touchdowns in a single year and has already logged his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard season (1,029).

Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has been a big part of his breakout year, with the sixth-year veteran receiver also aiding Daniels in his pursuit of the AP Rookie of the Year honor.

ESPN Analytics gives Washington a 93.1 percent chance of making the playoffs but just a 1.9 percent chance to win the division.

It'll take the Philadelphia Eagles losing both of their remaining games and two Washington victories to flip the teams' positions in the standings.
