Cowboys grant fans' ultimate wish with genius RB pick to kick off Day 3

After a fantastic showing on Day 2 that received rave reviews, running back and wide receiver were the biggest needs for the Dallas Cowboys entering the final day of the NFL Draft.

Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic - Ohio State v Texas

Just like last year when Dallas didn't own a fourth-round pick, there was an early run of running backs to kick off round four.

Between Bhayshul Tuten, a reported Cowboys target, Cam Skattebo, Trevor Etienne, who the Panthers used the pick they got from Dallas in the Jonathan Mingo trade, Woody Marks, Jarquez Hunter and Dylan Sampson, running backs are flying off the board.

Thanks to the depth of this class, Dallas still had its pick of the litter and settled on former Texas Longhorn speedster Jaydon Blue.

Cowboys finally draft a playmaker in Texas RB Jaydon Blue

At long last, the Cowboys have finally drafted a running back.

Blue joins a running back room that consists of free agent pickups Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders and former sixth-round pick Deuce Vaughn. Hunter Luepke chips in at fullback every now and then and former UDFA Malik Davis is on the practice squad.

Blue was comfortably the most explosive running back left on the board. A former track sprinter, Blue has the breakaway speed to take any carry to the house. With the ability to catch passes out of the backfield, Blue brings a little bit of everything to an offense.

The former Longhorn compiled 730 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground to go with six (!) receiving touchdowns. He's better than you'd expect for a 6-0, 200-pound running back.

The one knock on Blue is his ball security after he fumbled four times (three that were lost) last season. If he can add more strength and take better care of the football, he has the potential to be the RB1 in Brian Schottenheimer's offense.
