It would not be an NFL offseason if the Dallas Cowboys were not going through a standoff with one of their stars over a long-term contract extension. With training camp starting in a little more than one month, Micah Parsons is still without a new deal.
The Cowboys do have a bit of a track record of waiting until the last minute for new deals as the team did with stars like CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott in 2024. We could witness something similar with Parsons in the coming months.
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin offered some NFL predictions for future moves and projects the Cowboys will eventually sign Parsons to a four-year, $162 million contract.
“Of all the discontent pass rushers seeking new deals this offseason, Parsons’ fight feels the tamest,” Benjamin detailed in a June 11, 2025, story titled, “Predicting contracts, trades for Cowboys’ Micah Parsons, six other major NFL players in minicamp situations.” “Perhaps that’s reading too much into his generally jovial personality and public optimism regarding a future in Dallas. Perhaps it’s because, unlike (T.J.) Watt in Pittsburgh, he actually reported to minicamp, albeit as a ‘hold-in’ steering clear of the practice field.
“Either way, the Cowboys tend to get things done; they just do things at their own pace. Like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb before him, Parsons is a face of this franchise, and he’ll likely be rewarded as such, if only after enduring a long offseason of speculation regarding his value. At the end of the day, our bet is Jerry Jones signs the check.”
Cowboys Star Micah Parsons Is Slated to Have a $24 Million Salary in 2025
As a reminder, Parsons completed his four-year, $17 million rookie contract. If nothing changes, Parsons is slated to play on a club option in 2025 with a $24 million salary.
Spotrac projects Parsons’ market value at a four-year, $145 million deal, slightly less than CBS Sports’ predictions. Parsons has publicly put the pressure on the Cowboys to get a deal done sooner rather than later.
“It’s going to cost them more,” Parsons told All DLLS’ Clarence Hill in regards to waiting to get a contract signed, per Sports Illustrated.
Exclusive Interview With Micah Parsons on Cowboys’ Super Bowl Chances: ‘I’m Tired of Waiting’
During an exclusive interview with Heavy Sports during Super Bowl week, Parsons opened up about his goals heading into next season. Parsons has his eyes on the Cowboys being a Super Bowl contender and is “tired of waiting.”
“To me, it’s all about getting to the Big Game,” Parsons told Heavy Sports during an exclusive interview on February 7. “You know, it’s great being here. It’s great attending, but (I’m) in the prime of my career, going into my fifth year, time went by fast where I want to be in the Big Game. I want to be in these big moments. I want (these) big opportunities, and it’s time for me to get there, man.
“I’m tired of waiting. I don’t want to keep going through first-round exits. I don’t want to keep going through the ideas of what we could be. I’m tired of all the talk.”
