Dallas Cowboys Predicted to Cut Former First Round Pick Before the Season

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off another early playoff exit after losing to the Green Bay Packers in the wild card last season. The Cowboys, who were the second seed in the NFC, allowed Green Bay to become the first-ever seventh-seed team to advance past round one in the playoffs with Jordan Love throwing for three touchdowns in the Packers’ dominant victory over the Cowboys and winning by a score of 48-32.

In recent memory, the Dallas Cowboys have put together talented rosters that achieve success in the regular season but fall short in the post season. With multiple years in a row of the continuous struggles in the postseason, fans expected the Cowboys to make splashy moves this offseason to try and compete for the Super Bowl next year. However, the Cowboys did not do much.

Dallas let multiple starters walk in the free agency and did not add key pieces to replace them. To add to the disappointment, they haven’t been able to agree to terms on new deals with the franchise caliber players they do have.

Quarterback Dak Prescott is entering the final season of his current contract with the Cowboys and is looking for a new deal. The Cowboys and Prescott remain far away on any talks of a re-up and rumors are heating up. With the quarterback market being outrageous recently, Dak Prescott is expected to receive a deal similar to Trevor Lawrence’s new contract, paying Lawrence $275 million over five years.

Considering Prescott’s perspective, there’s little incentive for him to sign a deal with the Cowboys as he enters the final year of his contract. Regardless of his performance in 2024, he will likely attract numerous suitors next season, all willing to make him one of the NFL’s highest-paid players.

Apart from Dak Prescott, the Cowboys have not yet secured a contract extension for CeeDee Lamb, their top offensive playmaker. Lamb is expected to hold out until a new deal is struck with Dallas. Lamb broke several Cowboys records this past year including most receptions and receiving yards in a season.

NFL teams are allowed to carry ninety players on their offseason roster but before the regular season, all teams must cut from the 90-man roster to a 53-man. The Cowboys have a lot of players competing for limited spots on the 53-man roster. Blogging the Boys, believes former first round pick of the Oakland Raiders, Gareon Conley, who was recently signed by the Cowboys, will not make the final 53-man roster.

Dallas Cowboys Predicted to Cut Gareon Conley

Conley has not played a snap in the NFL since December of 2019. In 2023, Conley was a member of the UFL’s DC Defenders. He was the first-round selection, pick number 24, by the Oakland Raiders in 2017. In 2019, Conley was traded from the Raiders to the Houston Texans for a third-round pick. Blogging the Boys believes Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland, Jourdan Lewis, Eric Scott Jr., Caelen Carson, and C.J. Goodwin will all make the roster ahead of Gareon Conley.

Due to his limited experience, there’s a real possibility the Cowboys will part ways with the former Raider before the start of the 2024 season.

Conley has appeared in 31 NFL games and started in 26. At 28, he’s recorded 94 total tackles and four interceptions.
