Dallas Cowboys TE Jake Ferguson Assigns Blame for Fumbled 2024 Season

Not much went right for the Dallas Cowboys' offense last season, but tight end Jake Ferguson intends to change that in 2025.

Ferguson produced a Pro-Bowl campaign two years ago on the strength of 71 receptions for 761 receiving yards and five touchdowns across 17 appearances and 16 starts. All of those numbers cratered last season (59 catches, 494 yards, zero scores) in 14 appearances, at least partially due to injury

"I definitely wasn't satisfied with how I played all last year," Ferguson told the Forth Worth Star-Telegram on Thursday, June 19. "My knee hurt, for sure. The concussion was weird. But I've said this before, if I'm on the field, I should be able to give it my all. I don't think I've ever played a full season and not scored a touchdown. That was something that I came into this offseason really working on."

Ferguson said he's putting his third NFL campaign in the rearview mirror as he moves into a contract year in 2025.

As a fourth-round pick in 2022 who played his college ball for the Wisconsin Badgers, Ferguson inked a four-year rookie deal for just $4.4 million. He needs to have a bounce-back season if he hopes to cash in, and if Dallas hopes to compete in an NFC East Division that supplied the conference championship game with both of its participants in the Philadelphia Eagles (the eventual Super Bowl champions) and Washington Commanders.

The 26-year-old tight end should have an opportunity to achieve both goals if he remains healthy, and if quarterback Dak Prescott returns to full health in 2025 and can maintain it for the entirety of the season.

Prescott played just eight games last year due to a torn hamstring and is entering the first year of a $240 million extension that makes him the highest-paid player annually in league history.

The Cowboys invested even more into the offense by recently inking wide receiver CeeDee Lamb to a $136 million contract extension and by trading with the Pittsburgh Steelers for wideout George Pickens who, like Ferguson, is entering a contract year in 2025.
