The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 is already repeating a huge mistake the ongoing zombie franchise's past three spinoffs have all made. Following the end of Daryl Dixon season 2, Daryl and Carol are going to the UK in hopes of finding safe passage back to America. However, Daryl Dixon season 3 will feature them washing ashore in Spain.
Daryl Dixon Season 3 Teases A Major Community Will Be Destroyed
A Group Of Survivors Will Be Overrun By Walkers

Daryl Dixon season 3's release announcement trailer revealed the most about the spinoff so far. This includes Daryl and Carol interacting with new characters portrayed by Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, and Alexandra Masangkay. Most of it seems to happen on the celebratory streets of a small city populated by survivors. However, it doesn't take long for its tune to change.
Not long into the trailer, it's revealed the city Daryl and Carol are taking refuge in has been destroyed by Walkers. The zombies can be seen everywhere in the city, which seems to have been attacked given the corpses and fire that are also visible. Much like the rest of the world, the undead remain a core threat in Spain.
The destruction of such a large group is nothing new for Daryl Dixon. The show has seen the fall of both the Pouvoir and Union of Hope in season 2, both of which were well-established groups that fell victim to destruction in rather simplistic ways. This emphasizes an aspect of the spinoffs The Walking Dead has been unable to avoid.
Daryl Dixon Is Repeating A Mistake The Walking Dead Spinoffs Keep Making
There's One Glaring Similarity Between The Franchise's Big New Groups
The destruction of another big group in Daryl Dixon emphasizes how all The Walking Dead spinoffs treat massive, well-established survivor groups. In Daryl Dixon, despite having been around for many years, both the Pouvoir and the Union fell quite easily once events in season 2 unfolded. This portrayal clashes with the apocalypse giving them over a decade to develop.
The same can be applied to the end of The Ones Who Live, where Rick and Michonne blew up an important conference being held by the CRM.
The easy destruction of well-established groups is a mistake The Walking Dead spinoffs all keep making. For example, Dead City season 2's characters saw groups from the Foragers to the Blood Shirts all die in very quick, one-scene sequences. Despite their size and knack for survival, every member was taken out in an unceremonious, quick fashion.
The same can be applied to the end of The Ones Who Live, where Rick and Michonne blew up an important conference being held by the CRM. While the Civic Republic destroyed, it's indicated every single corrupt member of their military died. Much like the deaths of other big groups, it was an easy out that negated the complexities involved.
Why Groups Being Destroyed So Easily Undermines The Walking Dead Universe
It's Unrealistic Given How Long The Apocalypse Has Been Happening For

The Walking Dead's spinoffs have all featured well-established groups that are killed off quite easily, despite the amount of time into the apocalypse they all are. While The Walking Dead timeline is debatable, it's safe to say all three shows are taking place over 10 years after the series began. Many of these groups have been around for that long.
Despite their longevity, though, most are killed off quite easily. This includes the Foragers willingly getting killed by zombies in Dead City season 2, and the Pouvoir and Union falling apart after Genet and Losang died in Daryl Dixon season 2. This is despite being heavily established groups that have many resources at their disposal.
The Walking Dead also somewhat suffered from this problem, with groups like the Highwaymen and the Wardens getting wiped out.
This lack of realism makes the franchise's newest group introductions feel unrealistic. Given the success of the Virginia communities in the original show, it would be assumed most locations would have similar groups surviving for so long. And yet, despite how realistic that would be, the spinoffs instead opt to destroy them despite their size and scope.
How Daryl Dixon Season 3 Can Avoid The Same Mistake
The Latest Community Destruction Could Have Strong Justification

Luckily, Daryl Dixon season 3 could avoid this mistake of destroying well-established communities too easily. One way of doing this would be to have this new city in Spain get attacked by a bigger, stronger group of survivors. This would explain how it was able to fall so quickly and why they were unprepared for such a destructive force.
Another way would be to explore different Walker variants, much like the acidic or fast zombies found in France. While it's currently unknown if there are any variants in Spain, a more dangerous version of the undead could explain why the city falls so quickly - especially if it's a new type not even survivors in the country know about.
Depending on how The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon explains the fall of this new survivor group, it could avoid the community destruction problem all the spinoffs have. If it does turn expectations on their head, then it could lead to a much more suitable reasoning for why they're destroyed, potentially elevating season 3's storyline in the process.
