Deebo Samuel Reveals Why Brock Purdy Is Struggling In Training Camp

The San Francisco 49ers are heading into a crucial 2024 season looking to rebound from a devastating Super Bowl loss in overtime to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Their championship window is wide open and every flaw is magnified, which is why some have been concerned about all the reported interceptions that quarterback Brock Purdy has been throwing in practice, but superstar wide receiver Deebo Samuel doesn’t seem too concerned.

Samuel spoke with Kay Adams on a recent episode of Up & Adams and shut down any concern over the interceptions, saying “He’s also going against the No. 1 defense in the league” and “Practice is where you work on your craft…We got a really good defense…our defense knows all our plays, so it’s kind of hard to get open.”

This is some important context that should make Niners fans relax a bit, as the Niners do have a phenomenal defense that has surely pushed Purdy to be better over the last couple of years.

You’d have to nitpick to find areas of Brock Purdy’s game to criticize, but if you were to criticize one it would likely be that he plays a bit too conservatively, so throwing interceptions in practice could be a good sign that indicates he plans on taking a few more risks this season.

Being too risk-averse as a quarterback is a recipe for disaster, and you never want to play just to not lose as opposed to playing to win.

If Samuel isn’t concerned about the interceptions, fans shouldn’t be either.
