Restaurant owned by 'The Walking Dead' star and director now open in downtown Greenville

Fans of the AMC Network series "The Walking Dead" can get a taste of the 11-season apocalypse-based show as Nic & Norman's—a southern-style restaurant—opened in the West End of Greenville's downtown at the start of August.

The new concept is located at 1 Augusta St. and takes over the former site of Smoke on the Water. Remains of the old floor are incorporated into the wood-based bar and other parts of the current celebrity-backed restaurant.

This concept is a joint venture between Greg Nicotero, director of "The Walking Dead," and Norman Reedus, who played the popular character Daryl Dixon in the popular zombie apocalypse series and spin-off "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon." Over the last five years, they have opened this new franchise bearing their names in Tennessee, Georgia, and two in Kentucky, according to Justin Sullivan, general manager of the Greenville dining space.

"We have a storytelling atmosphere that's family-friendly," Sullivan said. "We try to be consistent quality, and have a very approachable menu. We use historic style buildings at all of our locations, and it fits our theme and complements our service."

All five of their South-based locations possess the same menu and restaurant look—from their glass chandelier and tourist T-shirts for sale to an upcoming outdoor patio and brunch menu soon to arrive in Greenville—the downtown restaurant is coordinated with the others.

What are some interesting menu items at Nic & Norman's in downtown Greenville?

From appetizers, soups, and salads to gourmet burgers, entrées, and desserts, Nic and Norman's offers a bit of what a traditional diner or restaurant might offer but with a touch of Southern-style uniqueness.

Their burgers can be classic or as a Frito chili Smashburger, a big fish burger larger than the actual burger, or even a Mexican burger with avocado, pico, and grilled jalapenos.

Entrees at Nic & Norman's won't include any high-end steak options outside of a New York strip, but a homestyle meatloaf, fried chicken pot pie and brisket mac and cheese speak to the Southern influence of their menus.

Nic & Norman's in Greenville will also feature regional and local beers that are to be seasonally rotated and handcrafted cocktails.
