Detroit Lions among favorites to trade for former Pro Bowl defender

After revealing that he doesn't think he'll get a contract extension from the New England Patriots, there has been some speculation recently that former Pro Bowl pass-rusher Matthew Judon could get traded.Patriots' Judon refutes report he won't play: 'Didn't say that' | theScore.com

As a result, sportsbooks have begun putting out odds for the teams that could trade for Judon, and the Detroit Lions are listed among the favorites.

According to BetMassachusetts, the Lions are +600 and are being given a 14.3% chance to acquire Judon in a trade with the Patriots. Only the Seattle Seahawks (+500), Atlanta Falcons (+550) and Chicago Bears (+550) have better odds.

Detroit needed to add to their pass-rush this offseason to give budding star and edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson more help, and the Lions did that with the signing of veteran Marcus Davenport.

However, Davenport comes with concerns, as not only has his production been inconsistent over the years, he's also battled injury and hasn't played a full season once during his career. Knowing that, the Lions would be wise to explore adding someone else before the start of the season.

Judon is coming off a season in which he had four sacks in four games before seeing his campaign cut short due to a biceps injury. In the two years prior to that, Judon was an absolute stud, tallying 28 sacks in that span, including a career-high 15.5 in 2022.

With the Lions having Super Bowl aspirations, they absolutely should explore adding Judon if he becomes available. And, with ample cap space to work with the next few years, Detroit can also get an extension done with the 31-year-old.

If a trade for Judon isn't in the cards, the Lions should look to free agency, where they can still sign Emmanuel Ogbah, an effective pass-rusher who can play both on the interior and the edge.
