GREEN BAY Wisc. -- The Detroit Lions have announced a flurry of moves before boarding their flight to Green Bay.
They signed defensive linemen Abraham Beauplan and Chris Smith to the 53-man roster, plus elevated edge rusher Al-Quadin Muhammad and tight end Shane Zylstra from the practice squad for the week. That adds three more pieces to the pass rush, which has been thinned out by injuries to Aidan Hutchinson, Marcus Davenport, John Cominsky and Derrick Barnes in recent weeks.
The Lions have now ruled out yet another member of their front seven, rookie defensive lineman Mekhi Wingo (ankle), along with running back Sione Vaki (knee). Both players were originally listed as doubtful to play in Green Bay because of injuries. Throw in Malcolm Rodriguez and Josh Paschal, who were ruled out on Friday, and Detroit has some serious depth issues on the edge of the defense.
In a corresponding move, the Lions released tight end Parker Hesse to help make way for the defensive reinforcements.
