Detroit Lions Fans Confused After Team Releases Veteran Quarterback

The Detroit Lions have made the final cuts to build their 53-man roster before the start of the 2024 regular season. The Lions were one win away from playing in the Super Bowl last season after losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game. Detroit let go of some well-known players this week, including their veteran quarterback.

The Lions bring back QB Nate Sudfeld - Yahoo Sports

The Lions have released veteran quarterback Nate Sudfeld from the team, even though he spent most of the preseason as the backup to quarterback Jared Goff. The team announced that instead, Hendon Hooker will be the backup quarterback this season.

Sudfeld took the most reps this offseason and impressed the coaches with what he brought to the table. He sat out of the final preseason game, which many believed was the case because Detroit wanted to keep him healthy and that he was a lock to make the 53-man roster. However, in a shocking turn of events, the team decided to let him go.

Nate Sudfeld Career

Quarterback Nate Sudfield takes a snap during the Detroit Lions training camp at their training facility in Allen Park, Mich. on Monday, July 29, 2024.

The veteran quarterback has been in the league since 2017, starting his career with the Philadelphia Eagles before making the move to Detroit. Over the course of his entire career, Sudfeld has only amounted to 188 passing yards with one touchdown and one interception. While he hasn’t found his stride in the NFL yet, he will likely be a backup option for the rest of his career.

Do you think another team will pick up Sudfeld before the start of the regular season, or will he remain a free agent?
