If you have been following the New Orleans Saints recently, you've like heard a lot about Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
He's expected to be the second quarterback taken in the upcoming National Football League Draft but it's unknown when that will be. Initially, there was chatter about him being selected with one of the top three picks in the draft. Now, there's been more rumors about him dropping and possibly even ending up with the Saints with the No. 9 pick.
New Orleans doesn't have a long-term answer at quarterback right now, although Derek Carr will be the starter in 2025. He has a massive cap hit for the 2026 season that it would be hard to believe the Saints will roll with.
Sanders is just 23 years old and finished the 2024 season with 4,134 passing yards, 37 passing touchdowns, and a 74 percent completion percentage in 13 games in 2024. This kid is going to make a team better and Saints superstar running back Alvin Kamara helped fuel the New Orleans rumors on Tuesday.
Kamara was with Deion Sanders -- father of Shedeur Sanders -- at the University of Colorado, The University of Colorado football team's official X account shared a picture of the two and a video of Kamara and then it was re-shared by the Saints.
The timing is interesting at the very least. Recently, there's been a lot of buzz about Sanders coming to town and then Kamara heads over to his college? Something seems up.
Deion Sanders is seemingly sending a message to the Saints about Shedeur Sanders
With Shedeur Sanders having a chance to be drafted by the New Orleans Saints, Deion Sanders appears to be sending a message to the franchise.
Seemingly out of nowhere, Shedeur Sanders became a popular draft projection for the New Orleans Saints. The quarterback prospect initially seemed like a lock for the top six, but with other teams addressing their quarterback rooms with veteran options, Sanders could now be available at No. 9.
If he is, he’d make sense for New Orleans. The Saints are still searching for a franchise quarterback, and Sanders is a talented prospect, and top two quarterback in the class. That’s why so many have connected the two sides in recent days.
The buzz between New Orleans and Sanders started after Colorado’s pro day on Friday. While the Saints only sent quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien and wide receivers coach Keith Williams, something interesting did happen with Sanders and the franchise. Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who is also Shedeur’s father and coach, ended an on-air interview with ESPN by saying “I like these colors,” while pointing to the black and gold Colorado gear he was wearing.
This came not long after the elder Sanders was asked in a press conference about his son possibly going to the Saints, to which he responded, he likes the team’s colors, the city of New Orleans, the food, and the possibility of Shedeur becoming the team’s quarterback.

The entire Sanders family knows how to work the media, and they’re very intentional about everything they say and do. While it’s unclear where the younger Sanders is on New Orleans’ radar, the Saints are definitely on his. That’s evident by Coach Prime giving the idea of this partnership legs.
A lot still has to happen for it to be more than an idea, though. First, Sanders will need to actually be available at No. 9. It’s very likely he could be selected between picks two and six— if that happens, it doesn’t matter if the Saints like him, because he’ll be off the board. But if he is on the board at nine, New Orleans must decide if it likes Sanders more than Spencer Rattler, or any of the quarterbacks it can get on day two of the draft.
If the answer to all of those questions are yes, then Shedeur Sanders will remain in the black and gold colors that his father likes.
