The New York Jets suffered yet another heartbreaking loss on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, 28-27.
The Jets won't leave the game with many positive takeways, especially on offense. However, they did have one strong performance that came on special teams from kicker Anders Carlson.
In his Jets debut, Carlson went three-for-three on extra point attempts and two-for-two on field goal attempts, including a career-long 58-yard kick that came late in the first half.
When speaking to media after the loss, Carlson spoke about the big kick.
"We were close to that in pregame, so I knew if I hit a good ball it should do its job," said Carlson. "Kicking is all about staying in the zone and trusting your tendencies, so I went up and hit the ball as best as I could and it slipped in."
After spending over a week on the practice squad, Carlson was thrust into the starting role when the Kansas City Chiefs signed prior starter Spencer Shrader to their active roster.
"I had more than a week, but building chemistry with those guys [Thomas Morstead and Thomas Hennessy], these are two of the best in the league," Carlson continued. "They have a lot of experience and they've helped me out a lot. Just relied on those guys, building reps and just getting to know the guys is a lot of fun. It's a good bunch of teammates."
The Jets have a pretty small sample size with Carlson, but with how much Greg Zuerlein struggled before the team placed him on injured reserve, it would be smart for them to stick with the hottest player.
