After learning the names of Abby and most of the others, as well as the fact that they are heading to Seattle, Ellie begins her mission to get back at the people who killed Joel. While the council of Jackson votes against the mission, that does not deter Ellie, who is ready to undertake the journey on her own, only for Dina to willingly join her. It is a good thing Dina chose to come along as well, as she immediately gives some helpful tips on how Ellie can get to Seattle alive.
Dina Tells Ellie Not To Wear Converse Sneakers For The Seattle Mission In The Last Of Us Season 2
Dina Disapproves Of Ellie's Footwear
While Ellie is mostly focused on bringing guns on the Seattle journey, Dina is helpful in suggesting a map so they know where they are going, some food so they don't starve, and some more practical footwear for Ellie. Dina quickly points out that Ellie's choice to wear Converse sneakers on the revenge mission is not an appropriate choice given the journey ahead. However, she does joke that she admires Ellie's consistency in choosing her favorite sneakers.
Chucks Have Become A Pivotal Character Detail For Ellie Throughout The Last Of Us
Ellie's Shoes Are A Nod To The Game
While The Last of Us season 2 differs from the game in some big ways already, Ellie's Converse sneakers are a mainstay in both versions. Throughout The Last of Us II game, Ellie is shown to be wearing Converse sneakers, and fans have pointed this out as a great attention to detail. The shoes are shown to be rather worn on the bottoms, proving just how often Ellie wears them and all the places she has taken them.
When Dina criticizes the shoe choice in the show, Ellie points out that she already made the trek while wearing them before, so it shouldn't be a big deal to do so again. This refers to her journey with Joel in the first season, but it also could be a little nod to the game and how they became a defining part of the character's look. However, given that Dina insists Ellie choose some better footwear, it seems as though The Last of Us show is acknowledging that the Converse sneakers are just not practical enough for this post-apocalyptic reality.
